Shalu Jain - Clinical Nurse Specialist

#MidCentralStaffMonday

Shalu Jain is a Clinical Nurse Specialist here at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora MidCentral. Her role supports our Diabetes and Endocrinology Service and offers care to patients suffering from diabetes in the Palmerston North Regional Hospital and the community. She also runs nurse led outreach clinics in Dannevirke regularly and mentors budding healthcare professionals from different nursing and medical colleges across the country.

“Demand for healthcare professionals is increasing with each day as so many people are affected by long term health conditions. I truly enjoy supporting and educating these patients and their whānau. It’s very rewarding to see the trust those patients and families build in you.”

Shalu grew up in India and completed her Bachelor of Nursing from there. She moved to New Zealand in 2009 and has been working with us since. She started as a Registered Nurse in Ward 25 and then moved to a role in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). She has been working in her current role for about five years now and has thoroughly enjoyed working with her team.

“I feel so privileged to work in a very supportive team of endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and diabetes specialist dietitians. Together we ensure that our patients get the best care.”

Outside of work, Shalu loves cooking delicious dishes for her husband, two children and mum. She also enjoys gardening and spending quality time with her friends and family in and around Palmerston North.

“Palmy is home to me now. I have been living here for around 15 years. I am in love with this place, people are very friendly here and have a warm and welcoming attitude towards people from different cultures.”

Thank you for all the mahi Shalu!
