Stepanie Russell - Charge Nurse

#MidCentralStaffMonday

Stephanie Russell is a Charge Nurse for the Old People’s Acute Assessment & Liaison (OPAL) Unit here at Palmerston North Hospital. In her role, she provides care to our elderly patients. As a senior member of her team, Stephanie makes an effort to motivate those around her and support them in their journey as healthcare professionals.

“I love working with the elderly and their whānau. It is so great to promote healthy ageing within our community and all my awesome team members work very hard for this common goal.”

A solo mum to three really cool kids, Stephanie started working in aged care after her graduation and there has been no looking back since.

“Each day is different in elder health. We all love listening to our patients’ stories and seeing those beautiful smiles just makes our day amazing. Not to forget, the heaps of knowledge we acquire as we look after our patients!”

Stephanie is so passionate about her work and goes above and beyond to help her patients, their whānau and other. In June, she was commended for her show of compassion and professionalism when she noticed a patient's whānau who were in a distressed state. They had just come from overseas and didn’t know what was happening with their loved one. Stephanie took the time to listened to their worries and took immediate action to address them.

Outside of work, Stephanie loves spending time with her family and friends. You can often catch her heading up s to Hawke’s Bay to visit her whānau, with her head in a good book or spending some well-deserved ‘me’ time in her garden.

Thanks for all your amazing work; Stephanie – we’re so happy to have on the team!
