#MidCentralStaffMonday

Precilla Binoj Paul is an Associate Charge Nurse in the Medical Speciality Ward at Palmerston North Hospital. Precilla was a key player in setting up this new ward and her current role gives her the opportunity to provide her clinical expertise and guidance to her team.

“I was super excited about setting up a new ward and was in the recruitment team for selecting my amazing team members. We’re a bunch of people who are up for offering care and support to our patients in distress.”

Originally from Mangalore in India, Precilla moved to Palmerston North a decade ago with her husband who is also a registered nurse. She has a passion for helping people within the community and chose nursing as a career for the same reason.

“Nursing has always been a passion of mine. It gives me an opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives. In nursing, you must follow your passion and purpose and stay true to yourself.”

Precilla started working with at MidCentral in 2018 and has worked in different wards over her time here. She absolutely loves how this profession gives her the opportunity to work in diverse areas with lots of learning.

“I started as a nurse in the Orthopaedic Ward and then got the opportunity to work in the COVID Ward and support the community when the entire world was facing the pandemic. I then worked in the Oncology Ward before taking up this role. I’ve really enhanced my skills in this field by working in various areas. Every nursing professional must try to work in diverse areas to gain more professional expertise!”

Precilla is currently pursuing her Masters in Nursing from Massey University which keeps her busy. She enjoys spending quality time with her whānau, listening to some good music and yoga. She is also a cricket enthusiast and diligently follows the game.
