The Department of General Medicine interfaces with all Internal Medicine departments and provides consultancy services to the surgical specialities.
The General Medicine department at Palmerston North Hospital is an academic department with regular teaching, tutorials, and presentations. These provide excellent opportunities for learning, development, and exam preparation.
There is also a chief registrar position. This is a clinical leadership position, and provides a unique introduction to clinical governance, service organizational issues and workforce management. The main responsibilities relate to collaboration with RMOs, senior clinicians, clinical executives, and other members of the team.
