Medical Registrar (Advance Trainees, Basic Trainees and Non-Training)

Vacancy of the Month

Patients are cared for by General Medicine teams as well as subspecialty services including Neurology/Stroke, Cardiology, Renal, Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Acute Geriatrics. Each team is staffed by a consultant, a medical registrar, and a house officer. Trainee interns and/or 5th-year medical students are often assigned to teams as well.

The emphasis of the model of care is maintaining patient continuity as well as ensuring care is delivered by the most appropriate service. This allows teams to follow the patients’ progress from admission all the way through to discharge.

The Department of General Medicine interfaces with all Internal Medicine departments and provides consultancy services to the surgical specialities.

The General Medicine department at Palmerston North Hospital is an academic department with regular teaching, tutorials, and presentations. These provide excellent opportunities for learning, development, and exam preparation.

There is also a chief registrar position. This is a clinical leadership position, and provides a unique introduction to clinical governance, service organizational issues and workforce management. The main responsibilities relate to collaboration with RMOs, senior clinicians, clinical executives, and other members of the team.

What we're proud of:

  • As a RMO at Te Whatu Ora | Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral you have the support of a dedicated SMO, whether you are enrolled in a formal training programme or not.

  • There are multiple vehicles for RMO feedback and all feedback is collated and fed forward in order to constantly improve.
