MHAS has embarked on a programme of transformational change for adult and crisis services, which sees a fundamental shift in the way services are delivered. Services are moving towards a wellness and recovery-focused approach in our community that prioritises access, choice, and care closer to home.

The change sees significant investment into digital technologies and new infrastructure including the construction of a new “greenfield” state-of-the-art acute inpatient unit.

Our fellowship positions are 12-month fixed term positions. They offer Anaesthesia training at a senior level whilst developing an area of special interest/sub-specialty. They include opportunities for professional development to facilitate completion of specialist training and preparation to becoming vocationally registered and a practicing Anaesthetist.

his may include developing and leading the teaching of the junior medical staff, assistance with their training and roster co-ordination, audit and guideline development.

MHAS is responsible for the commissioning and delivery of primary, specialist, and community mental health & addiction services across a diverse urban and rural population of 186,000. We provide treatment for and connection to recovery-orientated services for individuals experiencing mental illness or addiction issues. Services are delivered across the continuum of lifespan, both regionally and locally, and include specialist community MH&A teams, kaupapa (Māori), Child Adolescent Mental Health Services, inpatient services, crisis response, acute alternatives, specialist primary mental health service, consultation-liaison MH, and specially designed residential programmes.

Women’s Health at MidCentral has gone through exciting changes in the last five years. The Department of General Medicine manages a complex array of patients from around the region, including those with rheumatologic, neurologic and various other conditions.

Patients are cared for by General Medicine teams as well as subspecialty services including Neurology/Stroke, Cardiology, Renal, Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Acute Geriatrics. Each team is staffed by a consultant, a medical registrar, and a house officer. Trainee interns and/or 5th-year medical students are often assigned to teams as well.
